Nickel 200/201

UNS Number 02200/02201

Nickel 200/201 is a commercially pure wrought nickel alloy. Nickel 201 was modified to control carbon (0.02 max) which keeps it from being embrittled by intergranular precipitates at temperatures of 600°F to 1400°F in many processes. The alloy is dual certified and has good mechanical properties with excellent resistance to many corrosive environments. It is widely used to handle caustic soda. Where product purity is a priority, Nickel 200/201 is especially useful.

Typical applications are:

  • Food processing equipment
  • Marine and offshore engineering
  • Salt production
  • Caustic handling equipment

Nickel 200/201 Corrosion Resistance

Nickel 200/201 is highly resistant to many corrosive agents. Although most useful in reducing environments, it can be used also under oxidizing conditions that cause the development of a passive oxide film. The outstanding resistance of Nickel 200/201 to caustics is based on this type of protection.

  • Excellent corrosion resistance to distilled and natural waters.
  • Resistance to neutral and alkaline salt solutions.
  • Excellent resistance to dry flourine
  • Widely used to handle caustic soda.
  • Offers some resistance to hydrochloric and sulfuric acids at modest temperatures and concentrations.

Nickel 200 and 201 are approved for construction of pressure vessels and components under ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII, Division 1. Nickel 200/201 is approved for service up to 1250ºF (677ºC). Melting point is 2615-2635°F.

Fabrication with Nickel 200/201

By proper control of the amount of hot or cold work and by the selection of appropriate thermal treatments, finished fabrications can be produced to a rather wide range of mechanical properties.

Nickel 200/201 can be easily welded by conventional welding, brazing, and soldering processes with exception to the oxyacetylene process.
