The AL-6XN^® alloy is a superaustenitic stainless steel which was developed by Allegheny Ludlum Corporation. It is a high molybdenum superaustenitic stainless steel developed to handle oxidizing and acidic chloride solutions. The higher levels of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen provide a far greater resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress-corrosion cracking than exhibited by the 300 series stainless steels.

Fabrication with AL-6XN^®

AL-6XN^® is readily fabricated by using standard austenitic stainless steel practices. In comparison to carbon steel, stainless steels are tougher and tend to work harden rapidly.
